Semi-pro football in the area hasn’t gotten a lot of media coverage and has rarely been seen on television. Fire owner, Kyle Dincler, hopes that this will be a stepping stone to not only get more fans to the games, but to let local talent know that semi-professional football exists and will encourage aspiring players to try out for the team for next season. Mt. Carmel tight-end, Joey Altherr, appeared on a live radio interview with Andy Furman last season while with another area team, and last season’s Fire team was featured in the Clermont Sun. Usually the only television time for semi-pro football teams has come on public access. Hopefully the Ken Broo broadcast can put fans in the seats and help not only the Fire, but all semi-pro teams in the Cincinnati area. Warriors Score Often in Win Over FireJune 11th, 2008
Mount Carmel Fire was unable to contain Lima as the Warriors roll to another division win.

6/9/2008 - Lima, Ohio — One, two, three, punt. One, two, three, punt. One, two, three, punt. That was pretty much the Mt. Carmel offense against Lima on Saturday.
The Warriors’ defense forced befuddled Mt. Carmel to punt five times and beat the Fire 48-3.
“It’s hard to say ‘great game’ after a loss, but I love football and great defense,” Mt. Carmel runningback Shawn Abdelmassih said. “We’ll lick our wounds and try to come back with a better effort next time.”
The statistics were as one sided as the final score.
Mt. Carmel (0-2) managed just six first downs, 24 rushing yards and 90 passing yards on 28 passing attempts. The Fire struggled to move the ball and punter Patrick Harder was a familiar name the announcers called throughout the game.
Harder punted well during his busy day, averaging 31 yards.
“Mt. Carmel has a solid team and I believe they have the foundation to become a great team soon,” Warriors coach John Parkins said. “I was impressed with the way that we were able to run and pass the ball the way we wanted to.”
The Warriors (2-0) won their 21st game in a row against in-state teams since losing 14-7 to the Central Ohio Lions in 2004. In the season opener against the Gladiators, their offense turned the ball over five times and looked every bit as confused as the opposition did for much of the day, but the Warriors seemed comfortable offensively Saturday.
“ The Fire have the makings of being a great team down the road, as long as your players keep playing and believing, and showing the effort they did Saturday night, ”Lima Vice President Devon Jones said. “Mt. Carmel is one of the great things about this level of football..”
The game was played, for the most part, in humid conditions although a late second-half breeze cooled down the exhausted offenses. It was like the weather in week one, only with high 80-degree temperatures.
The Warriors led Mt. Carmel 35-0 at the half—“I still saw a couple of things that we needed to work on offensively” Parkins said—before putting the game away on Butcher’s 60-yard punt return in the third quarter and Henderson’s 41-yard scoring pass to Runion later in the third.
Mt. Carmel’s Justin Fragassi kicked a 46-yard field goal, but the Warriors committed a penalty and the Fire declined the points. This proved to be a mistake, as the Fire failed to capitalize and Glenn White Jr. intercepted a pass in the endzone on the ensuing drive. Fragassi helped avoid the shutout with a 43-yard field goal late in the fourth. Garrison Wallace grabbed a couple of big catches after the outcome was clear and finished with 35 yards on five receptions.
That was just about all the offense contributed.
“The defense played another stellar game tonight,” said coach John Parkins, who still feels there is room for improvement. “We have great athletes out there, but we had a lot of open assignments and people running around that didn’t know where they were supposed to be.”
Mt. Carmel’s Shane Clouse hit on 11-of-28 passes with two interceptions.
The Warriors never turned the ball over this week and Henderson, who completed 9-of-14 passes for 191 yards, didn’t throw any interceptions and was replaced in fourth quarter by Kaene Runion.
In time, Lima wore the Fire down, but still had a few problems. Long touchdown receptions by Kaene Runion and Porfirio Sutton, as well as a 50-yard interception return were negated to penalties.
Now the Warriors, who play at Ada on Saturday, must hope they’ve learned something from games against the West Virginia Gladiators and Mt. Carmel and cut down the penalties and turnovers.
“Even though we looked great, we’re still not where we need to be like we were last year,” Parkins said. “It’s going to be an interesting game next week and we need to go in there and take care of business.” FIRE Ready for Season OpenerMay 30th, 2008Saturday, May 31, marks the home and seasoner opener for the FIRE’s sophomore season. With a retooled roster and change of venue, the FIRE look to turn from last year’s 1 - 9 record towards a season of success, and playoffs. Based on the team’s performance during the preseason, and renewed attitude towards the coming season, coaches and players are excited to see the FIRE perform as they should- as winners. “We’ve really come together on both sides of the ball, ” commented Head Coach Coleman Lucas. “We brought back a core of athletes and leaders from last year, as well as added a good number of semi-pro veterans with impressive resumes. Every week we gel a little more.” The FIRE also made a strong addition to the coaching staff. Semi-pro veteran and Miami Redhawk alum Neal Wolfe stepped in as Defensive Coordinator, helping to solidify what was already a strong point for the team. “It’s been just awesome to see everyone come together and start playing as a team, especially the defense. We’re getting guys to the ball, gang tackling, sticking heads in there. It’s exciting to watch.” The FIRE will battle the Pittsburgh Pride of the Eastern Football Conference. The Pride had a 2007 record of 7 - 2. The game will take place at Turpin high School. Gates open at 6 pm. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and over. Kickoff is at 7 pm. FIRE Squeak past MV WarriorsMay 13th, 2008The FIRE wrapped up their preseason with a win over the Miami Valley Warriors. The Fire edged out the Warriors 33-32, after the Warriors missed a 2-point conversion to win on a controversial call in the final minute of the fourth quarter. Both teams played well, were able to address issues as they head into their respective seasons, and look forward to what could be an annual meeting between the Cincinnati and Dayton teams. Thanks to the Warriors for a good game and great sportsmanship! FIRE Blazes then Fizzles in Pre-Season OpenerApril 28th, 2008The FIRE travelled well to Hardin County, KY, on Saturday, and were hosted well by the Wolverines. The FIRE held their own on both sides of the ball in the first half against the established and tough MCFL team, but this was a tale of two Mt. Carmel teams. After scoring on the opening drive of the 2nd half to tie the game at 27, the FIRE offense began to sputter, and the defense was unable to adjust as the Wolverine offense repeatedly exploited the same weakness again and again. The Wolverines went on to score 33 points in the 2nd half, once on defense, for a final score of Wolverines 60, FIRE 27. With this being a preseason game, some strategic and personnel decisions were made in order to allow players reps and to test specific approaches. However, the final result was disappointing given the FIRE’s 1st half play. An added challenge was the absence of the FIRE’s Defensive Coordinator, Neal Wolfe, and LB and Captain Anthony Cazbar, both due to family obligations. The FIRE will wind up their preseason this Saturday at home against the Miami Valley Warriors of the IFL. The gate opens at 4 pm, and kickoff is at 6 pm. Admission is $5 for anyone 13 and over.
